A Jewelry value is primarily based on its precious metal content plus any gemstone settings. In some rare cases a real historic value might also play a role. For example: a gold ring that belonged to the Queen of England or a famous singer like Lady Gaga or Alonzo Morning, Its value is no longer based on the Gold or Diamond content alone, but in the historic value that it brings along. Most of us will never be in such a position, for that reason, most jewelry value is based on gold, platinum, diamond content only, minus the retailers profit of course. Because Gold is very durable, gold plated jewelry has very little gold content usually measured by the millions of an inch. Its value is calculated as a regular product cost, adding a small gold content value. In order to extract gold value from gold plated, a greater amount is needed, usually by the pounds.
